THE TROJAN STORY

 

O que é Trojan Records?

"A Trojan Records, fundada em 1968, foi uma das muitas gravadoras no Reino Unido que alimentou o ska, rocksteady e reggae mania varrendo o país. O fundador Lee Gopthal colaborou com Chris Blackwell da Island Records sobre as vendas por correspondência, o que levou Gopthal a abrir uma loja de discos chamada Musicland (que se tornou parte da rede Muzik City Record Shops). O nome de Trojan vem do Trojan construído em Croydon caminhão que foi usado pelo Duque Reid na Jamaica, que teve Duke Reid - O Rei de Tróia dos Sons pintado nas laterais.

O sistema de som de Reid ficou conhecido como Trojan Sound, que se tornou sinônimo de música nova e descolada.

Puxa, essa é uma ótima compilação que comprei na sexta-feira passada. Estou tocando em ambos os CDs basicamente sem parar no meu iPod desde aquele dia. Eu realmente nunca entendi essas coisas da velha escola ainda, mas agora eu finalmente consegui a felicidade que estou obtendo é infinita no momento. Ainda não consigo me identificar com essas pessoas da Jamaica (simplesmente não parece provavelmente eu me tornarei jamaicano durante a minha vida), mas essas coisas são ótimas para relaxar.

Existem muitas músicas clássicas em ambos os discos, por exemplo, Kingston Town original de Lord Creator, Lock Jaw de Dave Barker, Feel the Ridim de Clancy Eccles e três joias de Marley.

Algumas músicas deste CD são absolutamente histéricas, como The Trial of Pama Dice de Dice, Lloyd e Mum, que conta a história de um julgamento onde um cara chamado Pama Dice é acusado de agredir Woom Poom Poom e estuprar seu Poom Poom. Não exatamente um assunto engraçado, mas em um contexto Reggae realmente é. Sério, eles cantam sobre as coisas mais insanas possíveis e torná-lo engraçado. Outro cara estava cantando sobre maricas pretas, brancas, rosa e azuis em sua música. Eu perdi naquele ponto.

Claro, existem sete ou oito melodias que são bem brandas e absolutamente genéricas também. Mas no geral foi absolutamente digno de pegar esta compilação.

Ah, e o inlay também é legal, desde um texto contando as origens do rótulo até cada música com sua própria estória descrevendo de onde veio.
